CWU hits back at criticism of Royal Mail workers
The CWU has hit back at criticism of Royal Mail workers after MP David Lammy accused the company of “poor service”.
The Tottenham MP tweeted: “Poor service from @RoyalMail because of staff shortages means constituents are waiting weeks for post, including vaccination invitations. This is putting lives at risk in the N4/N8 area. It needs to be sorted out ASAP.”
CWU Deputy General Secretary (Postal) Terry Pullinger said “Our members have done an absolutely incredible job throughout the pandemic to keep the UK connected. People across the country are making adjustments to their lives to account for the unprecedented times we live in.
“Postal services are not immune from these challenges. There have been and will continue to be some delays in areas of the UK due to the impact of Covid. What we will not stand for is criticism of our members, who are going above and beyond to keep the service going. We ask for patience and consideration for your local postal workers – they are doing their very best under incredibly difficult circumstances. We as a union are very proud of them and so should everyone be.”
