Dear Colleagues,
HELP PROVIDE VITAL AID, DONATE TO THE CWU DISASTER FUND NOW
The CWU have been approached by branches asking them to co-ordinate an urgent appeal to help members families living in Jamaica.
Hurricane Melissa a devastating category 5 storm has caused catastrophic damage across Jamaica devastating parts of the island, killing at least 32 people, and more than 120,000 housing structures damaged affecting some 900,000 families.
Along with violent winds of up to 185 miles per hour, the storm brought torrential rainfall up to a metre high in mountainous areas, triggering widespread flooding and landslides. The damage left by the strong winds and flooding has been devastating, leaving many communities still cut off.
It’s vital that aid goes towards proving families with food and clean water and helping them to rebuild their homes into properties that can withstand a future hurricane.
CWU will be working with CWU Humanitarian Aid who are speaking with organisations who are on the ground to see how best we can support them.
